What is a Small Group?

A Small Group is a group of around 12 or so people who gather together on a regular basis in order to share life together and to help each other grow as disciples.

What curriculum does a Small Group use?

Small Groups use a wide variety of curriculum. The choice of curriculum for a group is up to the group’s leader. Some groups choose to work with a video based study that could range from a deep dive on certain books of the Bible or popular cultural topics. Other groups choose to work through books or other written curriculum together. Much of our curriculum is provided to leaders through RightNow Media.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a D-Group?

A small group can be made of eight or more people of any gender who meet together in people’s homes to study a curriculum. They can be based around life stage, hobbies, interest, or any other theme.

D-Groups are limited to three to five people of the same gender. They are focused around developing spiritual disciplines and are based on studying God’s Word together as opposed to a curriculum.

Feel free to join both a Small Group and D-Group, or just either one. Our Discipleship Plan at North Pointe only requires you to be involved in one form of transformational community to intentionally grow as a disciple.

What does a typical Small Group meeting look like?

Small Groups typically start with a time for members to share about their week and catch up on life together. Some groups even choose to share a meal together.

After that, they move into working on their current chosen study. This might mean watching a video together or hearing teaching in person from a leader.

Following this, the group moves into a time of reflection where they work through discussion questions and discuss the current topic. Many members share their insights at this point, but don’t feel like you need to if you’re not comfortable.

The group wraps up by sharing prayer requests and praying for one another.

A typical group meeting lasts anywhere from an hour to over two hours.

Where do Small Groups meet?

Because relational intimacy is the goal of every small group, most groups meet in the leader or other member’s homes. This is because when you enter someone’s home, you enter into their life. This is the most effective environment for building relationships.

For this reason, we do not typically allow small groups to meet at the church. That said, we do have a limited amount of Bible Studies and Classes that meet at the church. These groups are intended to seed and start small groups. Due to the low pressure environment, these groups are great for people new to the church to meet others if you’re hesitant to meet in someone’s house.
