God began stirring in the leadership of North Pointe Church a desire to create an environment specifically targeted to the unique needs of preteens. We understand that nine through twelve year olds are going through a very important time of their lives. They are facing a lot of changes physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. It is essential during this time frame that preteens embrace a new level of faith ownership.
We now have a unique transitional ministry specifically built for preteens. Our 4th, 5th, and 6th Graders have their own worship experience that will prepare them to transition into the student ministry. Our preteens start out every week in the main service for worship. They sit together in rows with their leaders. This gives the kids an opportunity to join the corporate worship setting and experience authentic live worship as they connect with God. Before the sermon starts, the group slips out together to their classroom, where they spend about 40 minutes doing a highly interactive lesson written specifically for preteens. They make vital connections with their peers and with caring leaders who are passionate about discipling kids in this specific phase of their lives.
Our 4th – 5th Graders join in on Creative Kids Clubs on Wednesday Nights. We have a specific preteen Bible lesson that gives these kids an opportunity to explore the topics at their level. Our 6th Graders join North Pointe Student Ministry for Journey Wednesday Nights. They experience live worship, games, a message for students, and middle school small groups separated by gender.
1 Timothy 4:12 says “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Team 412 is an opportunity for preteens to develop leadership skills, experience deeper discipleship, and take a more active role within the children’s ministry. In our kids services, our Team 412 kids help to lead the services in roles such as greeting, leading worship songs, running our media computer, leading a game, and giving announcements. We have already formed our team for the 2018-2019 school year, but if a child has interest in joining Team 412 during the school year, they can ask for an application. Contact Deanna Porter for more information: Deanna.Porter@theNPC.org.
At North Pointe, we believe God has given us gifts and talents to glorify Him and that our kids can start now learning to use those talents for God. On Wednesdays, we give elementary-age kids the opportunity to explore these gifts and talents.
Creative Kids Clubs officially starts at 6:30, but kids are welcome to come as early as 6:00 to play games and hang out with friends beforehand. At 6:30, all the kids will learn a Bible lesson then split into their clubs. Kids can be picked up between 7:45 and 8:00 in the Kids Church room at the end of the NPKids hall. Kids will get the chance to choose between two clubs for the fall: Music & Drama or Art & Games.
Discovery Camp is our summer day camp for kids entering Kindergarten through 5th Grade. Discovery Camp gives kids opportunities to choose from activities like soccer, ballet, outdoor adventures, art, science, cooking, and more. We had a great Discovery Camp in 2018 and are already looking forward to next year’s camp!
