What is a Discipleship Group?

A Discipleship Group (D-Group) is a group of three to five believers of the same gender who are committed to meeting once a week for the purpose to developing as a disciple. This is done by committing to spiritual disciplines and practices that are developed together through this group.

What curriculum does a D-Group use?

D-Groups don’t use a curriculum. Instead, D-Groups are practice based, so D-Groups focus on studying God’s word together. This is done by following the same Bible Reading plan together during the week and meeting to study and discuss what the members read and journaled about during the week.

What is the difference between a Small Group and a D-Group?

A small group can be made of eight or more people of any gender who meet together in people’s homes to study a curriculum. They can be based around life stage, hobbies, interest, or any other theme.

D-Groups are limited to three to five people of the same gender. They are focused around developing spiritual disciplines and are based on studying God’s Word together as opposed to a curriculum.

Feel free to join both a Small Group and D-Group, or just either one. Our Discipleship Plan at North Pointe only requires you to be involved in one form of transformational community to intentionally grow as a disciple.

What does a typical weekly D-Group meeting look like?

D-Group meetings typically start with a time for members to share about their week and catch up on life together.

After that, they move into a time of Bible study. This is done by discussing what was read in this week’s Bible reading plan and sharing what members wrote in their journals.

Following this, the group moves into a time of scripture memory. Members test one another on the memory verse from the past week. They then discuss the new verse for memory this week.

After that, they move into a time of accountability. During this time members share any spiritual victories they experienced as well as spiritual struggles they are going through the past week. They also share how they ministered to their “one” that week. The “one” is the person that member has selected who is far from the Lord and that they have committed to having at least one spiritual encounter with that week to help draw that person closer to the Lord.

The group wraps up by sharing prayer requests and praying for one another.

A typical group meeting lasts about an hour.
