“The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
    The skies display his craftsmanship.”
Psalm 19:1

One Minute Message

One kid asked the other, “Which is closer, Florida or the Moon? the second answered: “Duh! The Moon! You can’t see Florida from here!”

We can laugh, not unkindly, at a childlike understanding of the universe since we know that kids have so much yet to learn. But if you ponder the vastness of the universe and the endless mysteries it contains, it is easy to realize that we all have a childlike understanding of the cosmos. Do you marvel, jaw agape, when you see a painted sky during an Autumn sunset? Do you cry out with excitement when you catch a shooting star in the periphery of your vision? Do you stare at the tiny hands of a newborn child with awe at the intricacy and perfect frailty of the human body? Or, have you lost the wonder?

God’s desire is that we would never lose the wonder of his creation. He created the heavens in fact to proclaim his glory; he hung the sun, moon, and stars in their orbits to display his craftsmanship. Never lose the wonder! Did you know that you too are his craftsmanship? That’s right! And the God who made you wants to have a personal relationship with you. Yep, the King of the Universe wants to talk to you.

You’re going to help us, right?

“Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” (NIV)
2 Chronicles 20:12

One Minute Message

This verse is from a passage in the Bible in the book of Chronicles which tells of a pivotal victory over the enemies of the children of God. In past battles they had won hard fought battles, but here they were outmatched and outnumbered by their enemies. We see the children of God pray for God’s help, trust in his word, and worship him. As a result, they watch thankfully as the God of heaven’s armies destroys their enemies. Through this dependence on God, the children of God realized a victory they would not have been capable of on their own.

Did you know that God never changes? That means that the God who fought the battles for his children in the 9th Century BC, as we read above, still fights battles for his children today. That means that whenever we are outmatched, outclassed, and outnumbered, we can call upon a God who is for us and not against us; that is, if we have been given the right to be called children of God. Are you a child of God?

‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great
and unsearchable things you do not know.’
Jeremiah 33:3

One Minute Message

This was a promise to the Prophet of God, Jeremiah, but it has wider implications for
God’s people today. The children of God have a promise that if they call to God, he will answer! That’s remarkable! The God of the universe, the one who created the heavens and the earth, the one who designed and named you and me, not only promises to answer our call, but urges his people to call! He wants to hear from his children.

It doesn’t stop with that amazing detail either, though almighty God answering our call would be enough for most of us. No, he says that he will tell of great and unsearchable things that his children do not know. That means that things that are considered outside of the realm of human searching, God will reveal to his children. ‘Who you gonna call? You can’t go wrong calling upon the name of God.

Promise For A Nation

By | Radio | No Comments

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11

You have probably heard this verse before. Did you know that it is not a promise to individuals, but rather to an entire nation? Israel, God’s people in the Ancient Near East, had been taken into exile by the Babylonians. God sent the prophet Jeremiah with a message to God’s people: God has not forgotten about you, and he does have a perfect plan for your nation. The Israelites were scared, far away from their homeland, and hopeless. God sent a message to them in their time of greatest need that he would redeem their future and return them to the land of their ancestors.

“What in the world does this have to do with me?” you are probably asking. Well, while this is not a direct promise to you or me, it does demonstrate something remarkable about God’s character. No matter what circumstances seem impossible, no matter how hopeless a situation, God is in control, and he has a plan. That means that God ALWAYS has a plan! The creator and sustainer of the universe has a plan even for your life and for mine. Who better to have a plan for our lives than the one who created everything, the one who hung the moon and the stars, the one who gave us life? If you are a child of God, you can be certain that God has a plan for you, even when life is at its toughest. Are you a child of God?

‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’
Psalm 34:18

Have you ever experienced brokenheartedness? Have you ever felt crushed in spirit? Chances are that you have, and if you have, then you know that in those moments we often feel that no one understands what we are going through. There is rarely anyone CLOSE enough to us to empathize with our pain or speak to the deep longing of our hearts. In those moments, frankly, we maybe don’t even want anyone to be close to us. It is in those moments that we are at our lowest.

It is remarkable, then to read that God says that he is CLOSE to the brokenhearted, and that he will SAVE those who have had their spirits crushed! This is a promise from God to his children. Any loving parent would desire nothing more than to come alongside a hurting child and be close to them and save them from their despair. That is exactly what God will do for those who belong to him. He alone is the one who not only understands our brokenness and pain but who also SAVES us in the most hopeless of seasons. He alone provides hope in hopelessness and salvation to those who have had their spirits crushed by this cruel world. Whatever you are going through, know this: if you are a child of God, he will be close to you and save you from the worst pain that life can dish out.

Perfect Peace

You will keep in perfect peace
    all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3

One Minute Message

The prophet Isaiah is singing a song to God about how God will provide perfect peace to those who keep their thoughts fixed on him. Perfect peace!?! Are you kidding me? Is there even such a thing? God’s Word, the Bible, says that there is, and I am here to tell you that you can experience that perfect peace from God. This is a promise to the children of God. The promise says that when a person fixes their mind on God, they will experience a perfect peace. The source of such peace is the righteous, sovereign, saving God who “will swallow up death forever,” “will wipe away every tear,” and who alone is worthy of our trust.

That kind of promise could mean EVERYTHING in a world like ours that seems to be moving faster than ever, a world that seems lost and broken, a world where it is increasingly harder to find any peace, much less perfect peace. I would say that is a promise worth exploring!
