Promise For A Nation

By | Radio | No Comments

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11

You have probably heard this verse before. Did you know that it is not a promise to individuals, but rather to an entire nation? Israel, God’s people in the Ancient Near East, had been taken into exile by the Babylonians. God sent the prophet Jeremiah with a message to God’s people: God has not forgotten about you, and he does have a perfect plan for your nation. The Israelites were scared, far away from their homeland, and hopeless. God sent a message to them in their time of greatest need that he would redeem their future and return them to the land of their ancestors.

“What in the world does this have to do with me?” you are probably asking. Well, while this is not a direct promise to you or me, it does demonstrate something remarkable about God’s character. No matter what circumstances seem impossible, no matter how hopeless a situation, God is in control, and he has a plan. That means that God ALWAYS has a plan! The creator and sustainer of the universe has a plan even for your life and for mine. Who better to have a plan for our lives than the one who created everything, the one who hung the moon and the stars, the one who gave us life? If you are a child of God, you can be certain that God has a plan for you, even when life is at its toughest. Are you a child of God?

Brokenhearted

By | Radio | No Comments

‘The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.’
Psalm 34:18

Have you ever experienced brokenheartedness? Have you ever felt crushed in spirit? Chances are that you have, and if you have, then you know that in those moments we often feel that no one understands what we are going through. There is rarely anyone CLOSE enough to us to empathize with our pain or speak to the deep longing of our hearts. In those moments, frankly, we maybe don’t even want anyone to be close to us. It is in those moments that we are at our lowest.

It is remarkable, then to read that God says that he is CLOSE to the brokenhearted, and that he will SAVE those who have had their spirits crushed! This is a promise from God to his children. Any loving parent would desire nothing more than to come alongside a hurting child and be close to them and save them from their despair. That is exactly what God will do for those who belong to him. He alone is the one who not only understands our brokenness and pain but who also SAVES us in the most hopeless of seasons. He alone provides hope in hopelessness and salvation to those who have had their spirits crushed by this cruel world. Whatever you are going through, know this: if you are a child of God, he will be close to you and save you from the worst pain that life can dish out.

Perfect Peace

By | Radio | No Comments

You will keep in perfect peace
    all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Isaiah 26:3

One Minute Message

The prophet Isaiah is singing a song to God about how God will provide perfect peace to those who keep their thoughts fixed on him. Perfect peace!?! Are you kidding me? Is there even such a thing? God’s Word, the Bible, says that there is, and I am here to tell you that you can experience that perfect peace from God. This is a promise to the children of God. The promise says that when a person fixes their mind on God, they will experience a perfect peace. The source of such peace is the righteous, sovereign, saving God who “will swallow up death forever,” “will wipe away every tear,” and who alone is worthy of our trust.

That kind of promise could mean EVERYTHING in a world like ours that seems to be moving faster than ever, a world that seems lost and broken, a world where it is increasingly harder to find any peace, much less perfect peace. I would say that is a promise worth exploring!

Verses of Hope

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Bible has A LOT to say about about how followers of Jesus should deal with fear, worry, and anxiety (there are 365 verses about fear alone)! Scripture reminds us of the life God has promised us – we’ve chosen to share a few below.

If there’s a particular verse that stands out to you:

  1. Consider writing it down or printing it out and placing it somewhere in your house or car – a place where you’ll see it every day.
  2. Take time to memorize it, so you can easily recall the verse in a moment of anxiety.

If you feel you’re at a loss for words these days, you are not alone. Praying and meditating on scripture is a great way to put words to your deepest feelings.

  • Psalm 27:1
“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?”
  • Psalm 34:4
“I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me.  He freed me from all my fears.”
  • Luke 12:22-26
“Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.  Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.  Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!  Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?  Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”
  • Psalm 55:22
“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.”
  • Psalm 56:3
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.”
  • Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
  • John 14:27
“Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid.”
  • Psalm 94:19
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.”
  • Matthew 6:34
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
  • Psalm 118:6-7
“The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.  What can man do to me?  The Lord is with me; he is my helper.”
  • Psalm 23:4
“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
  • Joshua 1:9
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
  • Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
  • Isaiah 43:1
“But now, this is what the Lord says…Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.”
  • 2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
  • 1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”
  • Deuteronomy 31:6
“Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
  • Isaiah 41:13-14
“’For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.  Do not be afraid, for I myself will help you,’ declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.”
  • Psalm 46:1
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
  • Romans 8:38-39
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
  • Zephaniah 3:17
The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.”

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. John 16:33
